next up is a band gig on friday 27 august. it looks like being a great line up on the night courtesy of pm music who are promoting us again for this one in the great Glasgow music institution that is nice & sleazys. looking forward to it and hope you can make it down.

played an enjoyable improvised acoustic set at landsdown as part of west end festival on sunday night. coaxed niall off his beloved bass to play acoustic for the night, andy caused wonderment at some visibly impressed guys standing barely feet away with some pretty damn fine ambient elec guitar riffs and carly sang with power and no little soul. no sound coming from mics on first song didn’t seem to stop folk really enjoying the set. be back to the full band stuff soon once we get calamity ross off his crutches after (a) falling over picking up a much bigger guy after our gig at the ferry not so long ago no doubt under the influence of something or other and then more recently (b) a skate boarding incident leading to a busted ankle. reliably informed he will be back on the sticks soon…drumsticks that is not crutches.

taking a bit of a break from recording and mixing the instrumental stuff to do a gig at the ferry last friday in April. stuff has been sounding pretty massive in recent band rehearsals so it should be quite a lot of fun….

so i started this project a few months back, a few random piano tunes that had been kicking around in my head for quite some time gnawing at me like some sort of animal that won’t leave you alone until you just deal with it. it grew a few arms and legs as things always seem to do. i set myself the impossibly unrealistic target of completing it by Christmas. never going to happen in between other commitments, when will i ever learn….anyway i hooked up just before Christmas with Iain McKinna, who has agreed to help me finalise the mixes and master the tracks. Particularly pleased with that as Iain recently won a classical Brit and is undoubtedly the right man for this project. Looking forward to seeing it develop, but with a bit of luck it should be fully mastered in the next month or so. after that i will be picking up the guitar again i guess….

Doing an impromptu acoustic set at Box, Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow this Friday probably about 9ish. It’s free entry. Looking forward to it and hopefully people can make it down.

Cheers

playing a solo acoustic set on monday night, and hey it’s free entry. am sure i will be finished before flash forward comes on…. trying out some new songs for first time, ps my mate andy will be playing along with me to make sure i don’t mangle the guitar too much. come down!

some interesting things have been happening lately. having decided to take a bit of time out away from gigs and band activities generally to let things evolve there in a sort of more chilled out way, i found myself going back to a project first conceived some yrs ago. i have been told i have a long time orientation meaning apparently that it can take me some yrs to get round to doing something after i first consider it. it may take me a while to put plans into action (so that’s bad i guess) but then usually when i decide to do something there tends to be a bit of a whirlwind of activity (which i suppose is good). it’s a bit of a weird one but i am excited about it. two weeks in and the bulk of it is written and recorded which means that i must be on a roll and for the time being at least happy for the mood to carry me along. i can’t say too much just now mainly because i wouldn’t know where to begin trying to explain it other than to say it’s a bit like a story set to music so no lyrics and no singing. just music, a story and (hopefully) some limited visual concepts to help the story along. having drawing skills roughly equivalent to those of a two yr old i won’t be undertaking the artwork….also  i will for the most part be abandoning the electrics for this one, nice and quiet and very little in the way of drums and loud noises. something my maw and paw can listen to whilst sipping their sherry. so until the next time….

 updates may follow soon

so busy just now with all things band and music related, just time for a quick update. We have some other dates coming up, having booked to play at great bar/club The V Club, on Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow. Thrilled with that as I have seen some fantastic bands play there, it’s a great live music venue that turns into a cool club later. Great music and vibe all round. That’s on 4 June so make it down if you can. Come back to me for tickets. We’ve also booked in to play Maggie Mays, Trongate, Glasgow on 18 June - really looking forward to playing there, it’s an institution and I mean that in a non mental way…. We are at Henry’s Cellar bar in Edinburgh tomorrow, braw, and back at old chilled out favourite Pivo Pivo in Glasgow on Wednesday 13 May. Also we are working on a demo of some of the songs that have been going down well at the gigs and once that’s done, we will be handing those out at future gigs. A promotional vid is in the pipeline also - we’ll get that up on Youtube soon. Adios for now. Hope to see you at a gig or ten soon. x

Following hot on the heels of our first Edinburgh gig of 09, STILL FURIES are back playing at Pivo Pivo, Waterloo Street, Glasgow. Tickets will be anything up to a £5 depending on how much we like you…..x

this will be the first band outing in Edinburgh this year, could be the six of us for this one. It’s a saturday night so it promises to be jam packed. Come down early to get your tickets x
